SOBA held its long-range strategic planning meeting in February 2006. The meeting was attended by the full Executive Board and SOBA's staff. The goal of this meeting was to develop a three-year strategic plan to direct and guide SOBA to ensure success in executing their mission of increasing public boating access. The SOBA Board identified SOBA's internal and external threats and opportunities, and internal and external strengths and weaknesses, which are the core to establishing a successful strategic plan. The three-year strategic plan resulted from this intense organizational reflection.
The Board actively worked with a facilitator to complete a series of intensive exercises. By the end of the two-day workshop, SOBA's focus areas were identified and prioritized and these focus areas are embodied in the new strategic plan. These priority focus areas are:
• Develop and deliver products and services that can be used by its state members to maintain, increase, and promote boating access.
• Ensure that SOBA is recognizable, relevant, and is seen as a key force in creating and maintaining boating access.
• Develop a sustainable funding model to ensure that SOBA continues to positively affect boating access.
